The South-East Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives has demanded the resignation of Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), citing the disastrous failure of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The lawmakers also called for the complete cancellation of the examination and a new date to be scheduled for candidates nationwide.
In a statement signed by Igariwey Iduma Enwo, the caucus leader, the examination’s outcome was described as a “national shame.” The lawmakers demanded the immediate suspension of officials in charge of JAMB’s digital operations and examination logistics, emphasizing that leadership must carry consequences.
The demand follows Professor Oloyede’s admission of technical errors affecting candidate performance. Approximately 379,997 candidates will retake the examination due to technical glitches, low scores, and irregularities. JAMB confirmed technical issues at 157 out of 887 examination centers.
The South-East lawmakers expressed deep concern, stating that the incident had shattered trust and confidence in the educational system. They rejected apologies as insufficient, insisting that the credibility of the system had been compromised. The lawmakers emphasized that the flawed examination outcome had denied students in the South-East region equal and adequate educational opportunities.
