The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has stepped in to mediate the dispute between Air Peace and former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole following a confrontation at Lagos Airport last Wednesday. Keyamo confirmed in a statement on Friday that he has been in direct contact with both parties and has instructed aviation agencies to avoid making hasty conclusions.
The minister appealed for calm and urged both sides to refrain from further accusations and counter-accusations. He also ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident, directing relevant agencies to collect all available evidence and report to his office. Keyamo stated that the matter would be handled thoroughly and decisively, with the outcome serving as a guide for future conduct in similar situations.
The dispute between Oshiomhole and Air Peace officials arose over allegations of extortion of Nigerian passengers. Oshiomhole claimed that he missed a flight due to racketeering activities by airline officials, while Air Peace countered that the senator arrived late at the airport. According to Oshiomhole, about 20 to 30 other passengers faced similar treatment, with airline staff demanding additional payments to reschedule their flights. Keyamo’s intervention aims to resolve the issue and provide clarity on the matter.
