The APC North-East zone has explained why Vice President Kashim Shettima’s name was omitted in the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. According to the APC North-East Chairman, Mustapha Salihu, the omission was because the ticket holder typically announces their running mate.
Salihu stated that Shettima’s name was mentioned in the communique as the Vice Chairman of the APC, but not as Tinubu’s running mate for 2027. He emphasized that the ticket is a joint one, but it’s up to the ticket holder to announce their running mate.
The APC spokesperson in Kano State, Ahmad Aruwa, also downplayed the significance of the omission, citing similar instances where Shettima’s name wasn’t mentioned without backlash. He dismissed suggestions of plans to drop Shettima from the 2027 ticket, attributing the controversy to political maneuvering.
Meanwhile, Ganduje’s aide, Oliver Okpala, condemned the disruption and violence at the APC North-east zonal meeting, calling for party members to adhere to civilized political conduct.
