A 43-year-old makeup artist, Adekoya Mary, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for attempting to smuggle 2.20 kilograms of cocaine concealed in her suitcase. The arrest occurred on June 16, 2025, following credible intelligence. Upon inspection, officers found two large parcels of cocaine factory-fitted inside the walls of her suitcase. During interrogation, Mary confessed to being recruited and funded by a drug baron, Akeem Ayinde Adekanbi, who owns Rockford Hotel in Sango, Ogun State, and lives in Igbogbo, Lagos.
In other operations, NDLEA operatives seized 1.3kg of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, hidden in sewn female dresses heading to Bahrain, and 850 grams of cocaine concealed in cloth hangers heading to Australia. In Bauchi State, 1,013,000 pills of opioids, including tramadol and diazepam, were recovered from two suspects. In Abuja, 6.9kg of skunk and 59 grams of methamphetamine were seized during raid operations.
The NDLEA also reported multiple arrests and seizures in Kano, Kwara, and Edo States. In Kwara, a 22-year-old student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Olotin Nifemi, was arrested with 1kg of skunk. In Edo, a major raid led to the destruction of 4,226.11kg of skunk and the arrest of a suspect, Albert Shamaki. The agency continues to crack down on drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.
