Presidency denies replacing Akume as SGF

The Presidency has clarified that Senator George Akume remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, with no change in his position. This confirmation comes from Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement titled ‘Akume Remains SGF’.

The statement was issued to counter multiple reports that quoted Presidency sources saying President Tinubu had named his Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, to serve as the new SGF. Onanuga emphasized that President Bola Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.

“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” Onanuga said, urging Nigerians to be cautious of false information. The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news, ensuring the public is accurately informed about the current state of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation position.
