Gov. Umo Eno Approves ₦20,000 Monthly Allowance for NYSC Members in Akwa Ibom
In a major boost to youth welfare, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced an increase in the monthly state allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state—from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000. The new allowance takes effect from August 1, 2025.
Governor Eno made the announcement on Friday, July 4, during Day Two of the State Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.
According to the Governor, the increment is aimed at complementing the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly stipend for corps members and easing the financial burden faced by young graduates during their service year.
“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” he stated.
This latest initiative follows Governor Eno’s earlier approval for the complete reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area—part of a broader agenda to improve infrastructure and welfare for corps members in the state.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), established in 1973, is a compulsory one-year program for Nigerian graduates aimed at promoting national unity and community development.
The gesture by the Akwa Ibom State Government has been widely lauded as a timely and commendable effort to support the aspirations and wellbeing of Nigerian youths in service.
