Uyo, July 23, 2025 — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activity, with the arrest of a suspected thief and the recovery of a large haul of stolen items.
According to a press release issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the suspect, identified as David Ededet Okon of Mbiabam in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, was apprehended on Sunday, July 20, 2025. The arrest led to the discovery of a staggering quantity of suspected stolen property.
Among the recovered items were 4 sets of drums, 6 guitars, 15 mixers, 2 equalizers, 2 amplifiers, 8 gas cylinders, 25 speakers, and 2 ovens. Also retrieved were 2 gas cookers, 3 keyboards, 11 stabilizers, a washing machine, 5 compact discs, a giant ceiling fan, and 5 generators. Additional electronics and household equipment included 2 coils of DSTV wire, a Dell laptop, 9 desktop computer monitors, 13 TV sets, 4 electric irons, a sonic insect killer, 2 electric kettles, a motor battery, 10 microphones, a DSTV decoder, a Sony decoder, 6 DVD sets, 2 tomba drums, 5 standing fans, and 2 cymbals.
The police have urged members of the public who may have lost any of the listed items to visit the Command Headquarters with proof of ownership for identification and possible claim.
The statement also confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend an accomplice, identified only as Sanusi, who remains at large.
This arrest marks a notable stride in the State Command’s fight against property crimes and reaffirms its commitment to protecting residents and restoring stolen possessions.
