Akwa Ibom Govt Inaugurates 14-Member Committee to Investigate General Hospital Ikot Ekpene
The Akwa Ibom State Government has inaugurated a 14-member investigation committee to probe operations and recent developments at the General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene.
The committee, chaired by Prof. Israel Jeremiah, Provost, College of Health Sciences, Niger Delta University and Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, comprises professionals and stakeholders drawn from various sectors to ensure a comprehensive review.
Other members include Prof. Maurice Ntiense Utuk, Professor of Obstetrics & Subject Matter Expert; Dr. Nsikak Nyoyoko, Consultant Obstetrician; Dr. Oku Okoiseh, Specialist Obstetrician; and Dr. Unyime Ndoh, representing the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
Representatives from relevant institutions and bodies were also appointed: Barr. Emem Ette (Ministry of Justice), Dr. Okon Emah (Former Commissioner), Mr. Kufre Etuk (Nigeria Union of Journalists), Pastor Ekpedeme (Civil Service Commission), Mrs. Nsikan Jacob Udo (National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives), Mr. Franklyn Isong (Centre for Human Rights and Accountability Network), Mrs. Patricia Etim (Director of Nursing Services), Mrs. Rosemary Obong (Director of Administration & Secretary of the Committee), and Mrs. Mfon Akpan (Nurse/Midwife).
Speaking during the inauguration, government officials charged the committee to conduct a thorough, transparent, and unbiased investigation aimed at improving healthcare service delivery in the state.
The committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations to the state government within a stipulated timeframe.
