Akwa Ibom Police Command is intensifying the war against vandals in the State, following activities of bandits destroying public utilities and personal properties of the residents across the State.
The lastest, is the arrest of two suspected vandals for allegedly stealing electricity cables belonging to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) company in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
The suspects, which have since been cooling off in the Police custody at Ikot Akpan Abia are identified as John Joseph Udo (33) and David Anthony Udo (37), both from Ifoho village.
They were apprehended in the early hours of Saturday, September 6, 2025, while attempting to cart away vandalized electric cables in Nkap village.
Their arrest followed a tip-off from a vigilant community member, prompting the police to deploy a crack team to the scene.
The stolen items were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
Confirming the incident, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John said, investigation is ongoing to trace other stolen items and arrest buyers of such vandalized infrastructure.
She added that, the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The Command commended the prompt action of the local youth, stressing that community vigilance remains a vital tool in safeguarding public infrastructure against vandals and criminal elements.
