Senate May Reinstate Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan After Six-Month Suspension

Barring any momment change, the Nigerian Senate may officially reopen the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, restoring her access to the National Assembly complex in Abuja after six months of enforced suspension.

The Kogi Central lawmaker had been barred from her legislative duties following a directive from Senate President, Chief Godswill Akpabio, who ordered her relocation to a new seat within the chamber.

Her recalcitrant attitude to comply with the directive of the Senate standing rules, which arose from political realignments triggered by party defections, sparked a leadership tussle that culminated in her suspension.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that, retaining her original seat was crucial to preserving her constituents’ visibility and representation in the Senate, a stance that fueled her resistance to the seat change.

With her office now unsealed, the Senator is expected to resume plenary duties and continue championing the interests of the people of Kogi Central.
