In a strategic move to strengthen digital governance and communication, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed a renowned Information, Communication and Technology and digital communication expert, Destiny Young, as Special Assistant on New Media.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Young, an All Progressives Congress, APC, stalwart has been the party’s digital communication life-line, by building the APC’s corporate profile in Akwa Ibom and that if it’s members since 2013.
Destiny Young brings to the administration over a decade of top-tier experience in IT infrastructure, political digital media strategy, and public sector transformation.
He was also at the helm of Technology Infrastructure and IT Operations at the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) in Onne, Rivers State, a tenure marked by the agency’s top rankings in the Presidential Ease of Doing Business Index.
A product of rigorous academic and professional pursuit, Young holds multiple postgraduate degrees in ICT-related fields, including a First-Class M.Sc in Digital Transformation, an MBA (Distinction) in Cybersecurity, and an M.Tech in Information Technology.
He is currently awaiting results for another M. Sc in Cybersecurity and is pursuing a Doctorate in Technology Management.
Young’s credentials are bolstered by over 120 professional certifications, including a Google Digital Marketing Certification, and fellowships in prestigious bodies such as; the Institute of Information Management (IIM), Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), and the British Computer Society (BCS) among others.
His ICT journey began at Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited in 2006, where he rose to become Technical Head of ICT before transitioning to OGFZA. His public service career has been consistently marked by innovation, competence, and a commitment to digital excellence.
Beyond IT, Destiny has been a key player in political digital communications of APC since 2013, leading strategic online campaigns for prominent party gubernatorial candidates including Umana Okon Umana (2015), Nsima Ekere (2019), and Obong Akan Udofia (2023). He is widely credited with pioneering structured digital political communication in Akwa Ibom State.
His appointment is widely regarded as a strategic asset to Governor Umo Eno’s administration, aligning with the state’s commitment to enhancing citizen engagement through digital platforms and modern communication tools.
In his new role, Destiny Young is expected to lead the state’s digital narrative, drive innovation in public communication, and support the broader vision of a digitally connected and responsive government.
