APC Ward Chairman Seeks Wike’s Intervention Over Alleged Assault of Fire Service Officer by Superior in Abuja

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ward 10 in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Mbuotidem Udokpoh, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to urgently intervene in an alleged case of assault involving personnel of the Federal Capital City Fire Service in Abuja.

Chief Udokpoh made the call following the alleged physical assault of his wife, Mrs. Etini Amos Jim, an Assistant Superintendent of Fire attached to the Federal Capital City Fire Service in the FCT, by her superior officer, Assistant Chief Inspector of Fire, ACIF Mr. Nuhu Abdullahi, then DFO Garki Station.

Abdullahi, an Assistant Chief Inspector of Fire and Divisional Fire Officer in charge of the Garki Fire Division, is accused of attacking Mrs. Jim at their official residential quarters in Gwarimkpa, Abuja.

According to Udokpoh, the incident occurred on September 12, 2025, at about 1:15 p.m., when his wife harvested a bunch of plantain she had planted within the premises of the quarters.

“My wife planted the plantain sometime in 2022, and when it ripened, she went to harvest it. Shockingly, Mr. Nuhu Abdullahi accosted her and claimed ownership of the plantain,” Udokpoh alleged.

“What is most annoying is that he had the effrontery to physically assault and strangulate her simply because she harvested what rightly belonged to her.”

Udokpoh further alleged that, during the confrontation, Abdullahi dragged his wife on the ground despite pleas from other fire service personnel who reportedly intervened to rescue her from the attack.

Narrating her ordeal, Mrs. Jim said the situation escalated after she refused to hand over the harvested plantain.

“When I harvested the plantain, he came out and ordered me to return it to him. He even called other people around to witness the issue, and they all told him clearly that I was the rightful owner,” she stated.

She added that Abdullahi refused to listen and, in the course of the argument, allegedly grabbed her by the neck a nd strangled her.

“I sustained injuries to my mouth and nose, and I was bleeding. I was later rushed to the hospital after making an entry or formal report at the Gwarimkpa FCT Police Station,” she said.

The matter, according to the family, has since been reported to the police for investigation.

Chief Udokpoh has now appealed to the FCT Minister and the management of the Federal Fire Service to thoroughly investigate the incident and take appropriate disciplinary action to prevent a recurrence.

He described the alleged conduct of the divisional officer as a gross abuse of office and a violation of civil service rules, which strictly prohibit violence and the use of force among workers.

“This action is a total disregard for civil service regulations and basic human decency,” Udokpok said.

“If the Minister of the FCT or the leadership of the Federal Capital City Fire Service fails to sanction this unruly behaviour, I will be left with no option than to pursue decisive legal action.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Fire Service authorities had yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
