…commissions 1.4km of internal roads at the police headquarters

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has attributed the prevailing peace and safety across the state to divine support and the dedication of security agencies, praising their commitment to maintaining law and order and creating a stable environment for development.

The Governor spoke while commissioning newly completed 1.4km internal roads at the Nigerian Police Force State Command headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia. He also addressed officers during the 2025 Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the Department of State Services office in Uyo.

Governor Eno expressed gratitude to security personnel for working collaboratively, often at personal risk, to safeguard lives and property. He noted that the peace enjoyed in the state would not be possible without their sacrifices and professionalism.

He announced the approval of a contract to provide lighting for police stations across the state, explaining that improved illumination would enhance security operations and effectiveness.

The Governor commended the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, for his leadership and for the efficient deployment of patrol vehicles recently donated by the state government. He further pledged to strengthen police presence by supporting the construction of a Counter Terrorism Unit facility, thanking the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for approving the siting of the project in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies and improving service delivery. He also encouraged an officer whose residence was recently destroyed by fire and congratulated the Officer in Charge of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, Kokoette Thompson Ebong, who was named Crime Buster of the Year at the 2024 Nigeria Police Force Awards and Commendations held in Abuja.

In addition, the Governor disclosed plans to transfer the state fire service department to the Occupational Safety Department to improve operational efficiency. At the Department of State Services, he approved the provision of two new Toyota Hilux vehicles to support their duties.

Earlier, Commissioner of Police Azare welcomed the Governor and praised his administration for prioritising peace, unity, and security. He said the consistent support given to the State Police Command since Governor Eno assumed office had made a significant impact, stressing that security infrastructure and good governance were closely linked.

Azare explained that the newly constructed internal roads were strategic assets that would improve mobility, response time, and overall operational efficiency within the command. He assured the Governor of continued collaboration to further enhance security and public safety in the state.

Providing details of the project, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, said the roads were constructed following the Governor’s visit to the police headquarters in 2024, when he observed their poor condition. He assured that the roads were built to high standards and were expected to serve users for at least twenty years before any major rehabilitation would be required.

Highlights of the events included the official commissioning of the internal roads by Governor Eno and the switching on of the Christmas lights at the Department of State Services.

Dignitaries present included the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, the Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Adviser, Mr Aniefiok Johnson, members of the State Executive Council, political leaders, captains of industry, government officials, and members of the public.
