Tambuwal Raises Alarm Over Nigeria’s Insecurity, Calls for Global Support Against Terrorism

Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has issued a stark warning over Nigeria’s deepening security crisis, declaring that the nation is under siege and urgently requires both internal unity and international support to stem the rising tide of violence.

Speaking to journalists in Sokoto on Saturday, Tambuwal described the scale of insecurity as alarming, noting that persistent banditry and armed attacks have pushed the country to a critical breaking point.

According to him, the worsening situation now poses a grave threat to national stability and the safety of millions of citizens.

Tambuwal strongly condemned attempts to frame the violence in religious terms, insisting that those responsible for the bloodshed across Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and other affected states are driven purely by criminal intent.

He stressed that the attackers have no religious identity or justification, describing them as ruthless criminals who kill indiscriminately and terrorise innocent communities.

“These marauders are not Muslims, Christians or anything else,” he said. “They are criminals who operate without conscience and without mercy.”

In a significant international appeal, the former governor called on the United States to urgently review Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern, arguing that the label does not accurately reflect the nature of the crisis and risks undermining meaningful global cooperation.

He urged Washington to strengthen collaboration with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to dismantle violent criminal networks and restore security across the country.

Tambuwal emphasized that defeating insecurity requires collective resolve at home and strategic support from global partners, warning that failure to act decisively could further endanger Nigeria’s unity and future.
