World-renowned geo-environmental scientist and sustainability advocate, Professor Hilary I. Inyang, has once again placed Africa and the developing world at the centre of global scientific discourse following his high-profile academic mission to China.

In a global conference monitored in Uyo, South-South Nigeria via Zoom, the Distinguished Professor of Geological Sciences and Chair of the Global Institute for Sustainable Development, Advanced Analyses and Design (GISDAAD) recently delivered a landmark lecture at Nanjing University, one of China’s most prestigious institutions, where he has served as a Concurrent Professor since 1998.

The lecture, which drew scholars, researchers and postgraduate students from across China and beyond, focused on practical solutions for mitigating climate change, managing geohazards, and promoting sustainable development.

Observers described the event as a major intellectual milestone that reaffirmed Prof. Inyang’s status as one of the world’s leading voices in geoenvironmental science.

Shortly after the Nanjing engagement, Prof. Inyang was accompanied by Prof. Qin who is the Association Director at the University of South Africa (UNISA), en route to Suzhou, as part of a wider academic and institutional collaboration tour across Chinese universities and research centres.

The China visit is understood to be part of a strategic drive to strengthen Sino-African academic cooperation, expand international research networks, and advance global conversations on climate resilience, environmental protection, and sustainable infrastructure.

Over the years, Prof. Inyang has built a formidable reputation as a science diplomat, holding concurrent and visiting professorships across universities in China, Africa and the United States.

His long-standing relationship with Nanjing University spans nearly three decades of academic exchange, mentorship and joint research initiatives.

Sources close to the delegation revealed that the current engagements are expected to yield new collaborative research programmes, faculty and student exchanges, joint publications, and institutional partnerships linking Asia and Africa.

As climate change, environmental degradation and geohazards continue to threaten global development, and Prof. Inyang’s China mission is being hailed as another strategic step toward building a united international scientific front capable of delivering innovative and lasting solutions to some of the world’s most climate change challenges.
