Gov. Eno Reaffirms Commitment To Revive Oron Marine Transport, Inspects Terminal Project In Oron

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has restated his commitment to restoring commercial activities in Oron, by reviving water transport to link Calabar and other cities.

Eno, disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists after inspection of the ongoing construction of Oron Marine Terminal, Shore Protection, Jetty, Warehouse and Recreational Facility Project in Oron Town.

He said the project, when completed, would not only revive marine transportation between Oron and Calabar, but also restore Oron as a commercial centre for fishing, trade and marine-based commerce.

“We are in the terminal building where passengers will stay, buy tickets and board boats to Calabar” adding that, the vision goes far beyond passenger movement.

“Beyond marine transportation, I want the commercial activities to resume so that our fishermen can practice their trade.

“We have cold room facilities, dry storage and fish drying facilities so that the business can thrive. We have to make this place conducive and lucrative,” he stated.

The Governor commended MK Construction Ltd, for speedy and impressive execution of the project saying that, his visit was to inspect the level of work done, and ensure that the architectural design aligns with what is on ground to determine the next phase of implementation.

Governor Eno also expressed appreciation to the people of Oron for their cooperation and support to the contractors, describing the project as a priceless gift to the community.

“This project is for our people in Oron. It is our gift to Oron people and they are the ones to protect it”, adding that, Oron Marine Terminal project is expected to significantly boost tourism, trade, employment and marine transportation, while repositioning Oron as a major economic gateway in Akwa Ibom State.
