A sociopolitical pressure group, Southern Coalition for Tinubu 2027, with a growing membership across the three geopolitical zones of southern Nigeria, has announced plans for its official launch in Abuja.
This is part of the nationwide mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 general election.
The coalition said the Abuja event would mark the formal take-off of its campaign to galvanise grassroots support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It also disclosed that similar launches would be held in major southern cities, including Lagos, Enugu, Ibadan, Owerri, Calabar and Port Harcourt, while other strategic locations across the region would follow.
In a statement issued to journalists in Uyo on Friday, the National Coordinator of the group, Pastor Bassey James, said the movement was established to coordinate youth-driven and grassroots political mobilisation among men and women across southern Nigeria in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid.
According to him, the coalition will focus on voter enlightenment, stakeholder engagement, political sensitisation and advocacy across the South to consolidate support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Pastor James, who also serves as the National President of the Southern Youths Development Forum Inc., noted that the group would rely on the administration’s policy reforms and developmental strides to canvass widespread backing for continuity in office.
“The coalition is convinced that the President’s economic and governance reforms will yield long-term benefits for Nigeria and therefore deserve continuity,” he said.
He urged members to adopt peaceful, issue-based mobilisation in line with constitutional provisions and democratic principles.
“The Constitution allows a two-term presidency, and we are determined to campaign from state to state and door-to-door to ensure that the massive progress recorded under this administration continues seamlessly until 2031,” he added.
Pastor James further revealed that the group has commenced consultations with political elites across the three southern zones, including former and serving lawmakers, ministers, youth groups and religious leaders.
He also said the coalition is collaborating with pro-Tinubu support groups in northern Nigeria to strengthen its nationwide mobilisation network.
According to him, the proposed Abuja launch will formally signal the beginning of the coalition’s activities, with structures to be rolled out across southern states in the coming months.
“The coalition’s membership cuts across academia, professionals, industrialists, entrepreneurs and students. Every Nigerian who desires a progressive nation is welcome to join the movement,” he stated.
The statement was jointly endorsed by Abigail Edosa, Mr. Emeka Obielom (Diaspora Coordinator), Hon. Adaora Veronica Ijezie, Engr. Abiodun Adegal, and other notable political stakeholders from southern Nigeria.
