The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has a murder suspect after months-long investigation into the robbery, disappearance, and killing of a commercial motorcyclist in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Police Command, DSP Timfon John, the tragic incident was reported since November 11, 2025, when residents of Ikot Esop Village alerted the police that an unidentified commercial motorcyclist had been cornered, robbed of his motorcycle, and subsequently went missing at about 11:00 a.m.
She said, following the report, the Command immediately launched an intensive investigation, activating its intelligence and tactical units to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crime.
“After weeks of sustained intelligence gathering, police operatives arrested one Emmanuel Silas on Friday, February 6, 2026, at about 12:00 noon, in connection with the case”, she stated.
According to the Police, the suspect made useful statements during interrogation, which led detectives to the crime scene.
There, the remains of the missing motorcyclist were discovered buried in a shallow grave, as directed by the suspect. The body was exhumed, photographed, and preserved for forensic examination and possible autopsy.
The Command said investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing, recover the stolen motorcycle, and track down other suspected accomplices who are currently at large.
Reacting to the development, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command assured residents that all those involved in the heinous act would be brought to justice.
The Command also reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
Police have called on members of the public to continue to support security agencies with credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to effective crime detection and prevention in Akwa Ibom State.
