Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has congratulated Anthony Placid Okon, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, on his appointment as the new spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Okon’s appointment was announced on Monday by the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, who expressed confidence in the senior officer’s ability to handle the responsibilities of the position.

DCP Anthony Okon Placid succeeds ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, who was redeployed following a leadership reshuffle by the new Inspector General of Police.

DCP Placid, born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo Local Government Area, hails from Mbiokporo Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

His appointment is part of the ongoing restructuring within the police hierarchy, which also includes; the creation of a New Media Office, with CSP Ali Giwa appointed to head the unit. The changes are aimed at enhancing communication, media relations, and public engagement

In a congratulatory message released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno commended the Inspector General of Police for finding Okon worthy of the national assignment.

The governor noted that the newly appointed police spokesperson would bring to his new role the defining qualities associated with the Akwa Ibom people, including excellence in service delivery, integrity, humility, loyalty and commitment to duty.

According to the statement, the governor expressed confidence that Okon would support the vision of the Inspector General in advancing reforms and strengthening public communication for the police in line with the broader agenda of Bola Tinubu for the force.

“On behalf of the government and people of Akwa Ibom State, I congratulate you on this national assignment given to you by the IGP,” the governor said.

He also prayed for divine guidance and success for Okon as he assumes his new responsibilities, wishing him God’s speed in the discharge of his duties.
