The Akwa Ibom State Government has called on motorists and commercial transport operators to strictly adhere to traffic regulations in order to ensure safety and efficiency within the state’s transportation Eco-system system.

Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Udo Luke, made the appeal while reiterating the ministry’s commitment to building a more organized and reliable transport network across the state on Monday.

Dr. Luke said the government was working tirelessly to improve transportation services and road discipline, stressing that the cooperation of drivers and commuters was essential to achieving the desired results.

“We are working tirelessly for a better transportation system in the state. We urge all drivers and transport operators to join hands with the government in this effort,” he said.

The Commissioner cautioned motorists against engaging in traffic violations such as drivinng against traffic (one-way), operating motorcycles in restricted areas within Uyo metropolis, and engaging in touting activities that disrupt traffic flow.

He also advised commercial drivers to drop passengers only at designated bus stops and loading points to reduce congestion and ensure orderliness on major roads.

Dr. Luke further urged drivers to conduct themselves responsibly while on the road, noting that discipline among road users would significantly enhance safety and the overall efficiency of the transport system.

According to him, “Be responsible drivers and obey traffic rules. Together, we will achieve the best for Akwa Ibom State”.
