Hundreds of aggrieved residents on Monday, March 30, poured into the streets of Plateau State in protest over the gruesome killings that marred yesterday’s Palm Sunday observance by Christians, turning what is traditionally a sacred day of peace into mourning and outrage.

Demonstrators, who converged at Anguwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, the epicentre of the massacre described it as a national tragedy, demanded immediate and decisive action from authorities to halt the recurring violence in the region.

Chanting songs and carrying placards, the protesters decried what they described as persistent insecurity, insisting that the imposition of curfews alone cannot address the deep-rooted crisis.

Tension heightened as Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang arrived at the protest site, where he was met with mix feelings by the protesters and urgent appeals for justice.

Eyewitness footage circulating online captured the scale of the protest, with residents calling for strengthened security presence, accountability, and long-term solution to end the wanton bloodshed.

Many participants expressed frustration over what they see as a cycle of violence that continues to claim innocent lives, particularly during significant religious periods.

Community leaders at the scene urged the government to move beyond reactive measures and implement proactive policies that will restore confidence among citizens and safeguard vulnerable communities.

Meanwhile, in his Palm Sunday message to Christians worldwide, Pope Francis called for renewed commitment to peace, love, and solidarity in the face of suffering and violence.

Reflecting on the spiritual significance of the day, the Pontiff urged the global Christian community to embrace compassion and reject hatred, emphasizing that Palm Sunday symbolizes humility and the triumph of peace over conflict.

He extended prayers to regions experiencing unrest and violence particularly, Nigeria by encouraging leaders and citizens alike to pursue dialogue and reconciliation.

The Pope’s message resonated deeply against the backdrop of the tragic events in Plateau, North Central Nigeria orchestrated by the Fulanis terrorist groups, underscoring the urgent need for unity and healing in troubled communities.
