Ahead of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations on Friday, security has been significantly reinforced at Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country.

The move is to curb examination malpractice and ensure a smooth, credible testing process in this year’s exercise.

Report says, the enhanced measures, implemented ahead of ongoing national examinations, include the deployment of security personnel, installation of surveillance cameras, and stricter candidate verification protocols at accredited centres.

Officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which oversees most CBT examinations in the country, said the move became necessary following growing concerns over impersonation, cyber fraud, and other forms of malpractice that have threatened the integrity of the system in recent years.

According to the board, candidates are now subjected to thorough biometric screening before being granted access into examination halls. In some centres, security operatives conduct physical checks, while monitoring teams supervise activities in real time from control rooms.

A JAMB spokesperson noted that any candidate found violating examination rules would face immediate disqualification and possible prosecution.

“We are committed to maintaining zero tolerance for malpractice. These new security arrangements are part of our broader strategy to restore confidence in the examination process,” the official said.

Reports from several centres indicate that while the tighter security has improved orderliness, it has also led to early arrival requirements and longer queues, with candidates advised to come well ahead of their scheduled time.

Parents and education stakeholders have largely welcomed the development, describing it as a necessary step toward safeguarding merit and fairness in Nigeria’s education system.

Security agencies have also pledged continued collaboration with examination bodies to ensure that CBT centres remain safe, secure, and free from any form of disruption throughout the examination period.
