ABAK – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal elements, arresting 25 suspected cultists during a late-night operation in Abak Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out on May 3, 2026, followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, to intensify raids on identified black spots and dismantle criminal networks across the state.

Police sources disclosed that operatives of the Enforcement and Response Squad (ERS), acting on credible intelligence, stormed a notorious hideout at Oku Abak Village, where suspected members of a secret cult confraternity were reportedly assembling.

During the raid, 25 suspects comprising both male and female individuals were apprehended at the scene.

The swift operation also led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and a red beret believed to be linked to cult activities.

In addition, security operatives impounded three motorcycles and a minibus suspected to have been used in carrying out criminal operations.

The Police Command confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations, while efforts are being intensified to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.

Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, CP Azare warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.

He also called on residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime.
