Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intensify efforts toward ending banditry and insecurity across the country.

Chief Obasanjo, who spoke on Blend TV, in Lagos insisted that the Federal Government possesses the capacity to identify, track and apprehend criminal elements wherever they are hiding in Nigeria.

The call came prior to President Tinubu’s deployment of top security brass to Oyo state to locate the whereabouts and rescue the kidnapped school pupils a few weeks ago.

Obasanjo stated that with the resources, intelligence network and security architecture available to the Federal Government, there should be no safe haven for bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups terrorizing communities across the nation.

The former President maintained that, the government has the capability to locate and arrest anyone involved in criminal activities, regardless of their location, stressing that decisive action is needed to restore public confidence and guarantee the safety of lives and property.

According to him, the challenge of insecurity requires strong political will and coordinated operations by security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators to justice.

Obasanjo urged the Tinubu administration to demonstrate greater resolve in confronting banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes that have continued to threaten national stability and economic development.

He noted that Nigerians expect government at all levels to prioritize security, emphasizing that peace and safety remain essential for sustainable growth and national progress.

The former President’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over attacks by bandits and other armed groups in several parts of the country, with stakeholders calling for more robust measures to tackle the country’s security challenges.

He reiterated that, the Federal Government has both the authority and the means to pursue and apprehend criminals anywhere within Nigeria’s borders, urging the administration to fully deploy available resources to rid the nation of insecurity.
