ABUJA – The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has earned widespread commendations after personally leading a major security operation into forests surrounding Abuja that resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims, arrest of suspected kidnappers and the dismantling of a criminal hideout.

In a rare display of frontline leadership, CP Sanusi abandoned the conventional practice of supervising operations from the office and joined security operatives on the ground in a coordinated offensive against criminal elements terrorising communities within the territory.

The operation was launched following the abduction of five residents of Paze community in Byazhin Ward, Bwari Area Council, by armed kidnappers.

The police commissioner led a joint team comprising operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), personnel from the Kubwa Area Command, local hunters and vigilante groups into identified criminal enclaves.

During an intense gun battle, security operatives neutralised two suspected kidnappers, arrested two others and forced several gang members to flee into nearby hills with gunshot wounds.

The team also recovered two AK-47 rifles and other incriminating items believed to have been used by the criminal syndicate.

All five abducted victims were rescued alive and subsequently taken for medical attention.

In a related development, the FCT Police Command confirmed the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and the destruction of a bandits’ hideout in another coordinated raid aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating within forests and remote communities around the nation’s capital.

Police sources said investigations were ongoing to apprehend fleeing gang members and uncover other collaborators linked to the syndicates.

The successful operations have triggered public praise for CP Sanusi’s hands-on leadership style and renewed calls for stronger community involvement in addressing insecurity.

Security experts and stakeholders have urged residents to support security agencies through intelligence sharing, cooperation with law enforcement authorities and participation in approved community policing initiatives.

Observers noted that the operations demonstrate the effectiveness of collaboration among security agencies, local hunters, vigilante groups and host communities in confronting criminal activities.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against kidnappers, bandits and other violent criminals threatening public safety, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.
