UYO – The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Azare Mohammed, has honoured outstanding police personnel for exemplary leadership, professionalism and dedication to duty, even as he announced a statewide enforcement operation against vehicles with concealed, altered or missing registration number plates.
The officers honoured include Inspector Charles Asuquo and two other personnel who distinguished themselves through exceptional performance at their duty posts across the state.
Speaking during a briefing and presentation of Certificates of Recognition at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, on Wednesday, the Commissioner said the awards were part of efforts to encourage integrity, hard work and quality service delivery within the Command.
Azare noted that rewarding professionalism remained a critical component of modern policing and would serve as motivation for officers committed to excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Police Commissioner also announced the immediate commencement of a statewide enforcement exercise targeting vehicles operating with covered, altered, obscured, defaced or missing registration number plates.
He explained that the operation was in compliance with directives from the Inspector-General of Police and aimed at strengthening crime prevention efforts by denying criminals the opportunity to use unregistered or concealed vehicles to perpetrate unlawful activities.
He, therefore, urged motorists across the state to ensure that their vehicles were properly registered and that number plates remained visible and compliant with existing laws and regulations.
The CP also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for ongoing initiatives designed to improve the welfare of police personnel nationwide, particularly the distribution of First Aid Boxes to police commands across the country.
Azare further disclosed plans to honour additional officers of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, who recently earned public commendation for exceptional professionalism after their conduct was captured in a viral social media video.
According to him, recognising exemplary service would help build a culture of accountability and strengthen public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime-fighting efforts.
“We shall not relent in our efforts to ensure that criminals have no hiding place within our jurisdiction. Together, we shall continue to build a safer and more secure Akwa Ibom State,” the Commissioner stated.
