Lagos, Nigeria Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has set social media abuzz after telling fans and colleagues to challenge him on the strength of his catalogue, saying he has more hit songs than anyone in Nigeria. The comment came in a video circulating online where the 30BG boss dared industry peers and fans to put up a cash challenge, referencing his influence and years of chart topping records.
The singer, who is currently promoting his lead song B4 B4 off his 6th Studio Album ORIADE, said the challenge was not just about money but about proving who has consistently delivered hits that move the culture.
This is not the first time Davido has turned a social media call out into a fundraising moment. In November 2021, ahead of his 29th birthday, the singer asked friends to send him N1 million each, saying it was to clear his Rolls Royce from the port. The request quickly went viral as musicians including Adekunle Gold, Mr Eazi, Peruzzi, Phyno, and Naira Marley credited his account. Within hours he had raised over N26 million, and the total later crossed N120 million and eventually N185 million. It was gathered that Davido later donated N250 million to orphanages across Nigeria from the proceeds.
Music analysts say the renewed conversation comes at a strategic time as Davido prepares to tour and promote his sixth studio album, ORIADÉ. In a recent interview, he ranked his biggest records and credited FALL as the song that changed his life financially.
It is pertinent to know that the Grammy nominee have numerous songs which has gain alot of recognition around the world, to add to his afrobeat legacy, Davido stands out as the First Nigerian Artiste to perform at the World Cup Closing ceremony.
