The Nigeria Football Federation has ordered the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect, following the team’s poor outing at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The 10 time African champions crashed out of the tournament in the quarter-finals after losing to arch rivals Cameroon. Things got worse when a defeat to South Africa in the classification matches also cost Nigeria a direct ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons went into WAFCON as defending champions, and expectations were high that they would extend their dominance on the continent. Instead, the early exit has sparked anger among fans and forced the NFF to act.

In a statement on Monday, the federation said the decision was taken in the best interest of Nigerian women’s football as it begins preparations for a rebuild.

The NFF is yet to name a replacement, but sources say the search for a new technical set up will begin this week as the country looks to bounce back ahead of World Cup qualifiers.
