Concerns have been raised over the worsening condition of several public primary schools in Akwa Ibom State, as stakeholders push for urgent government action to salvage basic education infrastructure across the state.

Speaking during an interview with Uyo Infomedia News, a concerned resident, Mr. Philip George, said the situation in some schools is dire and requires immediate attention to prevent further decline in learning standards.

According to him, many of the affected schools are grappling with inadequate classrooms, dilapidated buildings, shortage of essential learning materials, and poor maintenance culture that has left existing facilities in a state of disrepair.

Mr. George explained that pupils in some communities are forced to learn in overcrowded and unsafe environments, a development he said continues to undermine the quality of teaching and learning at the foundational level.

He called on the Akwa Ibom State Government, local government authorities and other relevant stakeholders to urgently rehabilitate schools that are in need of repairs, supply basic teaching and learning materials, and put in place a system for regular maintenance of school infrastructure.

The stakeholder stressed that government intervention must go beyond patchwork solutions, noting that a deliberate and sustained approach is needed to address the challenges confronting primary education in both rural and urban areas of the state.

Mr. George further emphasized that sustained investment in primary education remains critical to providing pupils with a safe and conducive learning environment. He added that improving facilities and learning resources will not only boost educational outcomes but also strengthen the foundation of basic education across Akwa Ibom State.
