All 31 governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have pledged to mobilize their states for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. The pledge was made on Thursday after a closed-door meeting with the President at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the meeting. Uzodimma said the governors used the meeting to review the administration’s reform agenda and to align on strategies to ease transportation costs, boost agriculture, and strengthen food security across the country. On politics, the governor said the meeting also touched on the 2027 elections and the newly constituted APC Presidential Campaign Council.
“Second to it is the politics, the upcoming election, and the constitution of the Presidential Election Council which the president informed us officially, and we are in total agreement,” Uzodimma stated. “What we have agreed with Mr. President is that he will be delivered. All the APC governors are solidly behind Mr. President. To that extent, governors are expected to deliver their states. All 31 of us are in total agreement, and we are united. We are supporting Mr. President’s re-election. We are supporting the success of the election,” he said.
The meeting came shortly after a session of the National Economic Council chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima. It is also holding against the backdrop of INEC’s timetable for the 2027 general elections, which has already triggered early political activities. Last weekend, the APC released the list of members of its Presidential Campaign Council for 2027. Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, was named Director-General, while President Tinubu will serve as chairman of the council.
With 31 governors now publicly committing to deliver their states, the APC is setting an early tone for its 2027 campaign structure. The focus, according to Uzodimma, will be on governance delivery at the state level alongside the party’s national campaign.
Other developments reported this week include defections to the PDP in Gombe and a new federal directive making procurement certification mandatory for civil servants.
