Akwa United Football Club will return to action on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as players and officials are expected to resume for preseason ahead of the new campaign.
The club made the announcement on Friday through its media department, saying the date marks the official end of the break observed after the 2025/26 season.
Chairman of the club, Mr. Joseph Eno, directed all players and technical crew to report to the team’s camp on or before the resumption date. He stressed that punctuality will be key as the Promise Keepers begin preparations early.
The Uyo based side had proceeded on their end of season break shortly after the conclusion of the last campaign. The break gave players time to rest and recuperate before the rigors of another season.
With activities set to kick off in September, Akwa United will use the pre-season period to sharpen fitness, test new strategies, and assess players ahead of competitive games.
The club will be campaigning in the Nigeria National League this term. Management has set promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League as the primary target for the 2026/27 season.
Speaking on the objective, officials said the team is determined to return to the top flight and restore the club’s status among Nigeria’s elite sides. The Promise Keepers previously enjoyed spells in the NPFL and continental competitions.
Fans in Uyo and across Akwa Ibom State will be hoping the early resumption translates to a strong start when the NNL season gets underway.
