President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Nigeria for Europe to commence a three-week working vacation as part of his annual leave. The President’s first port of call is London, United Kingdom, according to the Presidency.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the trip in a statement on Monday. He said the vacation is within the President’s annual leave entitlement and will be used to rest and review key government policies ahead of the final quarter of the year.

Onanuga added that while in Europe, President Tinubu will also use the period to hold virtual meetings and receive briefings from senior government officials. He noted that the President is expected back in Nigeria at the end of the three week break.

Upon his return, the statement said, the President will immediately join preparations for the January 2027 general elections. Political activities are expected to intensify across party lines in the coming months as the Independent National Electoral Commission ramps up its timetable.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare, assured Nigerians that governance will not be affected by the President’s absence. He said Tinubu will remain actively engaged with the affairs of state throughout the annual leave, despite being out of the country.

Dare explained that modern communication tools will enable the President to take decisions and give directives remotely. He urged citizens to go about their lawful businesses, adding that the Federal Executive Council and other arms of government will continue to function without disruption.

The President’s trip comes shortly after Vice President Kashim Shettima also embarked on a similar vacation abroad. Verified reports indicated that the Vice President returned recently after his own break, as part of routine annual leave for top government officials.

With the President away, attention will now turn to how the administration maintains momentum on the economy, security, and electoral preparations. The Presidency said it will issue updates on the President’s engagements during the vacation period.
