FG SAYS RCCG DONATED $265,854 TO EVACUATE 500 NIGERIANS FROM SOUTH AFRICA

The Federal Government has disclosed that the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, donated $265,854 to support the evacuation of 500 distressed Nigerians from South Africa.

The disclosure was made in a press release issued on Thursday, September 3, 2026 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by its spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi.

According to the ministry, the donation by RCCG, led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, will cover air tickets for 500 Nigerians affected by renewed xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in South Africa.

The statement said this is the first time the government is providing a specific breakdown of RCCG’s contribution, including both the amount and the number of evacuees the funds will cover.

The government noted that philanthropic donations have already sponsored the evacuation of 255 Nigerians from South Africa. However, it had not previously identified RCCG or disclosed the value of its support.

Adeniyi said the ministry appreciates the timely intervention by RCCG and other well-meaning Nigerians and organisations who have stepped in to support citizens stranded abroad.

He added that the evacuation exercise is being coordinated in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria and relevant agencies to ensure the safe return of affected nationals.

The ministry reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting Nigerians in the diaspora and called for an end to the attacks targeting Africans in South Africa.

It urged other corporate organisations, religious bodies and individuals to emulate RCCG’s gesture by supporting ongoing efforts to assist distressed citizens.

Government officials said further details on flight schedules and logistics for the evacuation of the 500 beneficiaries will be communicated in due course.
