The family of late Inspector Hossanah Akpan, who served at Government House, Uyo, has received a newly built and fully furnished home from the Akwa Ibom State Government under its ARISE Compassionate Home initiative.

The 2-bedroom bungalow, located at Use Ikot Ebio, Obio Offot, in Uyo Local Government Area, was commissioned and handed over to the family by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Azare, who represented Governor Umo Eno.

As part of the intervention, the deceased’s son, Ubong Emmanuel, was presented with a deed of gift and proof of ownership of the property, alongside a 500-thousand-naira business support grant.

Speaking during the handover, CP Baba Azare said Governor Eno approved the project following an appeal for a befitting home for the family, describing the gesture as support for the Nigeria Police Force and recognition of officers who lost their lives in active service.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, also described the intervention as part of the administration’s efforts to improve the living conditions of vulnerable persons, while ensuring that no one is left behind.

The event was attended by the Commissioner for Security and Waterways, General Koko Essien (rtd.), Personal Assistant to the Governor on Humanitarian Services, Mrs Mfon Isreal, as well as other government officials, political appointees, police officers and stakeholders from Uyo Local Government Area.

The family of the late officer, who could not hide their emotions, thanked Governor Umo Eno for remembering the family years after the inspector’s demise, saying the intervention has restored hope to them.

They prayed for the success of the administration and pledged that the family would make judicious use of the property and the business grant.

The people of Use Ikot Ebio commended the state government for siting the project in the community, describing it as a demonstration of responsive and compassionate governance.

The ARISE Compassionate Home initiative is one of the flagship social welfare programmes of the Umo Eno administration aimed at providing decent housing for widows, the vulnerable and families of fallen heroes.

With this latest delivery, the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the initiative across the 31 Local Government Areas of the state.
