Akwa Ibom Govt Threatens Revocation of Undeveloped Plots in Ewet Housing Estate, Amidst Other Resulotions From the State Executive Council Meeting

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council met on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the EXCO Chambers, Government House, Uyo, under the chairmanship of Governor Pastor Umo Eno. The council made several key decisions aimed at advancing the state’s economic and social development.

One of the major decisions was the approval for the construction of a 2.15 km dual carriage rigid pavement and the rehabilitation of a 0.8 km dual carriage flexible pavement at Itam Industrial Park in Itu Local Government Area. This infrastructure project is expected to support the growth and development of the industrial estate, contributing to the state’s economic advancement.

The council also constituted a committee to engage with the management of key investments, including Rafia City Hotels (Four Points by Sheraton), to strengthen business relationships. This committee has 30 days to submit its report and is also tasked with designing a sustainable management framework for the Ibom Hotels and Apartments brand across Nigeria.

In a bid to enhance youth welfare, the council extended the monthly allowance of N20,000 previously approved for NYSC members serving in the state to all corps members of Akwa Ibom State origin serving nationwide. This decision is part of the Renewed Hope – ARISE Youth Support Initiative and aims to cushion living expenses and promote the well-being of Corps members.

Furthermore, the council directed all legitimate allottees of undeveloped plots and abandoned units in the Ewet Housing Estate to commence development within 90 days or risk revocation. The Ministry of Housing and the Akwa Ibom State Property and Investment Company (APICO) will ensure compliance.

The Executive Council also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival and directed the Planning Committee to expedite arrangements for a successful event. Additionally, the council directed the Ministries of Health and Justice to finalize all outstanding processes for the International Hospital project to ensure its timely commencement.

After the meeting, Governor Umo Eno led the Executive Council on an inspection tour of projects in the Central Business District of Uyo, including the 5,000-capacity Convention Centre, Ibom Hotels, and the emerging ARISE Shopping City.
