You’re Illegitimate Group to Speak to A’Ibom – Otuekong John
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Media Network has strongly refuted claims by the factional Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom, describing recent remarks about the status of the Akwa Ibom Deep Seaport as deliberate misinformation and political mischief.
In a statement signed by the Director-General, Otuekong Iniobong John, the Network emphasized that contrary to the PDP’s misleading narrative, the Akwa Ibom Deep Seaport remains an integral part of the Federal Government’s national maritime strategy and is progressing under a public–private partnership (PPP) framework.
“The Deep Seaport project is not abandoned. It is very much alive and aligned with Nigeria’s broader port expansion agenda,” the statement clarified.
According to the APC Media Network, while the recently announced $1 billion modernization plan focuses on upgrading existing ports in Apapa, Tin Can, Calabar, Warri, and Port Harcourt, the Ibom Deep Seaport is following a separate, investment-led development path, having already secured all statutory approvals, including Federal Executive Council ratification.
The statement described as reckless and disrespectful the claim that Governor Umo Eno has led the state blindly.
“Instead, it praised the Governor’s pragmatic alignment with the APC, describing it as a strategic decision based on development goals rather than political pressure.
“Governor Umo Eno’s partnership with the Federal Government reflects leadership maturity. He has prioritized economic growth over partisanship, working closely with federal agencies to attract investment and fast-track infrastructure projects,” the statement read.
The APC Media Network also dismissed the PDP Caretaker Committee, as an illegitimate group with no authority to speak for the party or the Akwa Ibom people. It accused the group of engaging in baseless propaganda to gain relevance.
“No amount of lies or noise can legitimize an illegal structure. Akwa Ibom people are politically aware and can separate truth from propaganda,” it added.
The statement concluded with a strong call for unity and focus on development, urging citizens to disregard divisive politics and support Governor Umo Eno’s vision of transforming Akwa Ibom into a regional maritime hub.
“The Deep Seaport remains on course, and with continued support, Akwa Ibom will emerge stronger under Governor Eno’s partnership-driven leadership,” it stated.
