Akwa Ibom State is bracing for potential flooding, with Governor Umo Eno calling on communities to join forces with the government to clean drainages and prevent ecological disasters. The governor stressed that community participation is vital in mitigating the anticipated disaster, emphasizing the need to avoid indiscriminate waste disposal that clogs drainages.
Governor Eno made the appeal during the Government House Monthly Prayer Service, citing a Nigerian Meteorological Agency projection that Akwa Ibom will experience 250-290 rainy days in 2025, increasing flood and cholera risks. He urged residents to clean their local drainages and organize community efforts to support the government’s desilting initiatives.
The governor also tasked the Ibom Community Watch to develop strategies to curb indiscriminate waste dumping, which contributes to drainage blockages. He expressed sympathy for those affected by natural disasters and promised government support.
In a separate note, Governor Eno invited citizens to the Second Anniversary Inter-denominational Thanksgiving Service on May 25, 2025, at the International Christian Worship Center in Uyo, to celebrate two years of God’s faithfulness and guidance.
