Gov. Umo Eno Reignites Town Criers’ Role in Governance, Sets New National Model

By Our Reporter

The ARISE Renewed Hope Media Forum has applauded Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his groundbreaking move to reintegrate town criers into the fabric of grassroots governance.

In a bold departure from modern norms that often sideline traditional structures, Governor Eno has officially recognized town criers as key stakeholders in the dissemination of government policies and civic education at the community level.

The move, described by many as visionary and inclusive, underscores his administration’s commitment to bridging the gap between government and the rural populace.

According to the new arrangement, town criers will now work in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the Ministry of Information, ensuring they are not only informed about government activities but are also active participants in public engagement efforts.

They will be invited to key state functions and granted access to official government communications for effective grassroots dissemination, a significant shift from previous administrations where their roles were largely ceremonial or neglected.

“Akwa Ibom has just created a new template for participatory governance”.

A statement by the Arise Renewed Hope Media, “Instead of sinking millions into high-tech outreach strategies that often miss the mark in rural areas, the Governor is wisely leveraging a reliable and time-tested network already embedded in the communities.”

This policy, he added, “is a masterstroke that fuses the strength of tradition with the demands of modern governance.”

The ARISE Renewed Hope Media Forum congratulated Governor Eno on what it calls “an inspired and people-centric decision,” and called on citizens and traditional institutions across the state to support its successful implementation.
