A new grassroots civic platform, the Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency Renaissance Movement, has been unveiled with a mission to unite the people of the Federal Constituency across political, cultural and ideological lines, while safeguarding the area’s heritage and advancing a sustainable future.
The Movement, which describes itself as a non-partisan and people-focused initiative, said its core objective is to restore collective pride, strengthen community bonds, and reposition Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency as a model of peace, inclusive growth and development in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
According to its mission statement, the group is committed to “preserving the heritage and future of the Federal Constituency by uniting citizens across political and ideological lines.”
It noted that decades of division, underdevelopment and lack of coordinated civic engagement have slowed the progress of many communities, making a renewed, people-driven approach both timely and necessary.
President of the Movement, Mr. Nsikan Ekim at a meeting in Uyo on Tuesday explained that, its strategy is anchored on three key pillars; dialogue, advocacy and community-driven initiatives.
Through regular town hall engagements, stakeholder consultations and grassroots sensitisation, the group plans to create a common platform where residents can freely express their concerns and collectively design solutions.
In the area of advocacy, the Movement said it will champion policies and programmes that promote peace, social inclusion, youth empowerment, environmental protection and economic opportunities for local residents.
It also intends to engage government institutions, traditional leaders, civil society groups and the private sector to ensure that development efforts are transparent, people-oriented and sustainable.
The group further stressed that its activities will be guided by the long-term interests of the people, with special focus on future generations.
“Our vision is not just about today, but about building a constituency where our children can thrive in peace, dignity and prosperity,” the statement said.
Community leaders and youths have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that could help bridge long-standing divides and mobilise citizens toward shared goals.
Many believe the Movement could become a rallying point for constructive engagement and collective action.
With its emphasis on unity, peace and sustainable development, the Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency Renaissance Movement is positioning itself as a new voice for progress; one determined to revive hope, protect heritage and chart a brighter future for the people of Ikot Abasi.
