The Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mr. George Uriesi has been named one of Nigeria’s “Legends of Aviation,” earning national recognition for his role in shaping the country’s airspace over the past century.
The honour was conferred during the Nigeria Aviation Centenary celebration held on December 1, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Uriesi was presented with the award by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Hon. Mohammed Idris, joining a select group of 47 aviation pioneers recognised for their visionary contributions to the sector.
The accolade marks a significant milestone in Uriesi’s 34-year career, distinguished by leadership across airline operations, airport management, regulatory oversight, and aviation development both in Nigeria and abroad.
Before assuming his current position as Acting MD/CEO of Ibom Air, he served as the airline’s Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. His extensive résumé also includes serving as Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and holding senior roles in aviation regulation and airport management in South Africa.
The recognition underscores not only Uriesi’s personal achievements but, also the strength of leadership within Ibom Air.
It reflects the airline’s growing reputation for operational excellence and its commitment to advancing the standards of safety, quality, and service within the Nigerian aviation industry.
Ibom Air, which marked its sixth anniversary on July 7, 2025 is wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, and continues to set industry benchmarks as the airline of choice for passengers.
Its fleet comprises nine aircraft; seven CRJ 900s and two Airbus A220-300s serving six domestic destinations as well as Accra, Ghana. The airline maintains a strong focus on schedule reliability, on-time performance, and quality service.
