The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has accused the government of Iran of sponsoring Islamic movements within Nigeria as part of a broader strategy to expand terrorism and destabilise regions across the world.

Freeman made the allegation against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East following coordinated airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets.

According to the envoy, Tehran has continued to provide support to extremist groups and militant movements beyond the Middle East, including parts of Africa, in a bid to advance its geopolitical interests and promote instability.

He alleged that some Islamic movements operating in Nigeria were receiving backing from Iran, warning that such support poses a threat to regional peace and security.

Freeman stressed the need for stronger international cooperation to curb the spread of terrorism and prevent external actors from exploiting religious or ideological networks to destabilise sovereign nations.

The Israeli envoy’s remarks come at a time of rising global concern over Iran’s activities following recent military strikes by the United States and Israel on strategic Iranian facilities, a development that has further heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Security analysts say the situation could have broader implications for countries outside the region, particularly in Africa, where extremist groups have been active in recent years.

A couple of days after the killing of the Iranian spiritual leader, Ali Khamenei, Northern Moslems in Nigeria protested against the US – Israel military onslaught that rendered both political leadership and military infrastructure in the embattled country to nothingness.

Unconfirmed reports say, Iranian leadership is currently divided as some are said to be begging President Donald Trump for a negotiation to minimise the ongoing killings, while remnants of the deposed maximum Islamic leader insist on military retaliation against US and the Zionists.
