The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Professor Leo Daniel, as the Chief External Examiner for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Mock Examination in Akwa Ibom State.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was conveyed in a letter dated December 11, 2025, and signed by the JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede.
Professor Daniel’s selection is in recognition of his outstanding academic background, proven pedigree and integrity, both within Nigeria and internationally.
As Chief External Examiner, the FUTIA Vice-Chancellor will provide overall leadership to all examination officials in the state and ensure the hitch-free conduct of the examinations.
His responsibilities include monitoring the examinations through personal and random visits to centres, receiving daily summary reports from all centres, addressing critical challenges, and representing JAMB in Akwa Ibom State throughout the examination period.
He is also mandated to liaise with the Akwa Ibom State Government and relevant agencies to facilitate smooth conduct of the examinations, as well as appoint three computer-literate and academically qualified proctors per centre from FUTIA and other tertiary institutions in the state to enhance examination integrity.
Professor Leo Daniel is the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi and Nigeria’s first Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
He is widely celebrated for designing the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) for Aerospace Engineering programmes in Nigeria at the request of the National Universities Commission (NUC), a framework that has since been adopted for tertiary education curricula nationwide.
With his vast global, national and sub-national academic experience, Professor Daniel is expected to add significant value to the conduct and credibility of the 2026 UTME in Akwa Ibom State.
