Police Arrest Suspected Ritualist, Recover Firearm in Uruan

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of a suspected ritualist, and the recovery of a firearm in Uruan Local Government Area.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspect, identified as 30 year-old Cletus Effiong Bassey, was apprehended on July 29, 2025, at about 6:51 p.m., following credible intelligence.

Bassey was arrested at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, Uruan, where he is alleged to have been engaged in ritual practices, including the preparation of charms and so-called “bullet repellers” for armed robbers.

A search conducted at the scene reportedly led to the recovery of a fabricated single-barrel gun.

The Police spokesperson said investigations are ongoing and assured that, the Command remains committed to ridding the state of criminal elements.
