Police Smash Cult Gang in Akwa Ibom, Recover Firearm and Human Skull

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested seven suspected members of a notorious cult group in connection with a violent assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm and human skull.

The breakthrough followed a report lodged on August 25, 2025, by a student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, who was brutally ambushed along Ikot Osurua by alleged members of the proscribed Ku Klux Klans Confraternity.

According to police sources, the victim, who had earlier renounced his membership of the cult group, was attacked with dangerous weapons, leaving him unconscious with severe injuries, while his Redmi 13C Android phone and ₦41,000 cash were also stolen during the assault.

This followed a swift intelligence gathering the operatives launched a full scale raid that led to the arrest of seven suspects identified as; Douglas Ambe Esikhene, Stephen Asukwo Effiong, Saviour Dany Akpan, Emmanuel Friday Umo, Augustine Uduak Okon,Mary Ating Asukwo and Itohowo Christopher Uko.

According to the Police, during search of their hideout several items were uncovered including a locally made short gun, seven live cartridges, fresh human skull, bottle suspected to contain black oil, and another bottle of Guyanese oil believed to be used for ritual practices.

Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John who confirmed the arrests, assure the public that, investigations are ongoing to track fleeing members of the gang to make further recoveries.
