The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has announced the appointment of two new Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellors, following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past officials.
The newly appointed officials are: Prof. Enobong E. Ikpeme, who assumes office as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), and Prof. Dianabasi U. Eduwem, appointed Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
Prof. Ikpeme was until her appointment, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, while Prof. Eduwem served as Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and Chairman of the Committee of Deans.
The appointments were approved by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Samuel Odewumi, in a letter signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, dated January 5, 2026.
The decision followed a collective resolution of the University Senate during an emergency virtual meeting held on the same day, where the Senate adopted its hierarchy and protocol in the selection process.
According to the university, the two Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellors are expected to support the Acting Vice-Chancellor in the day-to-day administration of the institution and act on his behalf when the need arises.
The appointments, which took effect from Tuesday, January 6, 2026, will run concurrently with the tenure of the Acting Vice-Chancellor.
By virtue of their new positions, both appointees have also become members of the University Governing Council.
The development comes at the end of the two-year tenure of the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Aniekan Offiong (Administration) and Prof. Anthonia Essien (Academic), who were appointed on January 4, 2024.
Meanwhile, the management of the University of Uyo has congratulated the newly appointed Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellors, while expressing appreciation to the outgoing officials for their selfless service to the institution, and wishing them success in their future endeavours.
