WAFCON VICTORY: Tinubu To Host Red Carpet Reception For Super Falcons At Aso Villa
President Bola Tinubu is set to receive the Super Falcons in a red carpet at the Presidential Villa in Abuja today, following their historic 10th continental title win at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.
Nigeria Super Falcons defeated the host nation, Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses 3-2 in a thrilling final held in Rabat, Morocco thereby sparking nationwide frenzy and celebrations, with many Nigerians commending the team’s resilience, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament.
Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, alongside several federal ministers, were at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to receive the team.
The Falcons will hold a trophy parade across major roads in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, including Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market, before meeting with President Tinubu.
Four Super Falcons stars have been named in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Best XI: Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie with Ajibade voted Player of the Tournament, claiming Woman of the Match honours in three of Nigeria’s six games.
Okoronkwo notched two goals and four assists, while Nnadozie was named Best Goalkeeper after keeping four clean sheets. Alozie played every minute of Nigeria’s campaign and scored a decisive late winner against South Africa in the semi-final.
Nigeria’s 3-2 win at the 10th WAFCON title confirms the Super Falcons as the continent’s most successful team, and cements their status atop African women’s football.
With this momentum, the Super Falcons have earned the $1 million winner’s prize, and also becoming favorites for upcoming tournaments while expected to maintain their leading FIFA ranking in the African Continent.
