𝐽a𝑛u𝑎r𝑦 3, 2026 ~ The decision by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Political Leader of the All Progressives Congress in the state, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno PhD, to appoint Prince Enobong Uwah as Chairman of the State Congress Implementation Committee marks a strategic step in repositioning the party ahead of the 2026 congresses and the 2027 general elections.

The committee was formally unveiled on Friday, 2 January 2026, during the New Year stakeholders meeting of the APC held at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Uyo. The event brought together key stakeholders across the party structure and set the tone for a disciplined and coordinated congress process.

Prince Enobong Uwah, who currently serves as Secretary to the State Government, brings to the assignment a reputation for pragmatism, administrative depth and political balance. His emergence as Chairman is widely viewed as a deliberate choice by Governor Eno to anchor the congress process on credibility, inclusiveness and effective coordination. With extensive experience in governance and political management, Uwah is expected to provide the steady leadership required to navigate the sensitivities that typically accompany party congresses.

Governor Eno, while announcing the constitution of the committee, underscored the importance of unity, discipline and shared purpose within the APC. He noted that the success of the forthcoming congresses would depend largely on the ability of the leadership to foster trust, accommodate diverse interests and uphold internal democracy. The Governor charged the committee to work closely with party structures at all levels to deliver a transparent and credible outcome.

Hon Dr Patrick Umoh was appointed Secretary of the committee, while other members include Hon Frank Archibong, Mr Nsentip Akpabio, Architect Ubokutom Nyah, Engr Uwem Okoko and Hon Mrs Owoideghe Ekpotai. Collectively, the committee was mandated to engage broadly with party stakeholders and ensure that the congress process strengthens, rather than undermines, party cohesion.

In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, commended Governor Eno for his stabilising influence within the APC and for fostering peace across Akwa Ibom State. He described the Governor’s leadership as purposeful and visionary, noting that the calm political atmosphere in the state reflects a commitment to unity and responsible governance.

Senator Akpabio also expressed confidence in the capacity of Prince Enobong Uwah to deliver on the committee’s mandate, given his track record in public service and party administration. He reaffirmed his support for Governor Eno and pledged continued collaboration in strengthening the APC beyond the 2027 election cycle.

Earlier, the State Chairman of the APC, Obong Stephen Ntukepo, praised Governor Eno for his inclusive leadership style and welcomed the choice of Prince Uwah as Chairman of the congress committee. He described the appointment as reassuring to party members and indicative of the leadership’s resolve to build consensus and fairness into the process.

Other party leaders at the meeting, including the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources for Gas, Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Udeme Otong, Senators Emmanuel Ibok Essien and Effiong Bob, as well as Obong Nsima Ekere and the State Woman Leader of the APC, Obongawan Obonodo Uko, echoed similar sentiments. They expressed confidence in the committee’s leadership and pledged their cooperation towards a successful congress.

With Prince Enobong Uwah at the helm of the Congress Implementation Committee, the Akwa Ibom State APC appears poised for an orderly and credible congress exercise. The development reinforces Governor Umo Eno’s broader strategy of consolidating party unity and laying a solid foundation for electoral competitiveness as the state moves steadily towards the 2027 general elections.
