No fewer than 25 public servants in Akwa Ibom State civil service smiled home with houses donation by Governor Umo Eno on Tuesday.

The gesture by the governor is a major boost in the welfare of workers as keys were presented to the beneficiaries of the 25 newly completed two-bedroom bungalows.

This is in addition to the 150 free two-bedroom expandable flats earlier donated to junior officers on Grade Levels 01–08.

The symbolic presentation ceremony, held at the Conference Room of the Head of Civil Service, was conducted on behalf of the government by the Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Elsie Peters, who also serves as Chairman of the National Housing Fund (NHF) in the state.

The event was marked by visible excitement and gratitude from beneficiaries.

One of the allottees, Mr. Lionel Udoka, expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a life-changing opportunity.

He pledged renewed commitment to duty, noting that the support would inspire greater productivity among workers.

“We are very excited to receive the keys to our new homes. We sincerely thank our dear Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for this kind of gesture, and also appreciate the Head of Civil Service for facilitating this process,” he said.

The Head of Service, Mrs. Peters earlier described the housing initiative as a strategic welfare intervention by the administration of Umo Eno, aimed at addressing accommodation challenges faced by civil servants.

She noted that the Public Servants’ Estate, located in Ikpedip, aligns with the governor’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes workers’ welfare and social security.

She urged beneficiaries to reciprocate the governor’s goodwill through loyalty, dedication, and efficient service delivery, while also encouraging them to maintain the facilities.

“This gesture underscores His Excellency’s magnanimity and deep concern for the well-being of public servants,” Mrs. Peters stated.

Also, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Ms. Doris Ikpuho, disclosed that the 25 housing units are situated within the Public Servants’ Estate in Ikpedip, and credited the successful delivery of the project to the commitment of the state government and the coordination of relevant agencies.

According to her, the estate was developed by the Akwa Ibom Property and Investment Company, with construction handled by MacDudu Resources Limited.

The housing initiative is widely seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Akwa Ibom State Government to improve the living standards of its workforce, and strengthen public service efficiency through targeted welfare programmes.
