Akwa Ibom, FG Partner to Boost Rural Electrification

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced a partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to further rural electrification in the state, in line with the ARISE Agenda. The Governor made this known during a courtesy visit by a delegation from REA, led by its Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, at Government House, Uyo.

Governor Eno emphasized the critical role of electricity in actualizing the ARISE Agenda and appreciated the REA management for its interest in partnering with the State Government. He expressed hope for a robust collaboration to deepen access to electricity, especially in rural areas.

The REA Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, said the visit aimed to explore strategic pathways for energy-driven development in the state. He presented an overview of the Agency’s 12 core programs, highlighting the ongoing construction of a 2.9MW solar hybrid power plant at the University of Uyo under the Energizing Education Programme Phase III (EEP III).

Aliyu commended Governor Eno for his comprehensive development blueprint, the ARISE Agenda, which aligns with REA’s nationwide mandate to bridge the energy access gap and drive inclusive socio-economic growth through decentralized renewable energy solutions. REA was established to increase access to electricity in Nigeria, and this partnership is expected to boost the state’s energy infrastructure.
