Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, announced on Thursday night that the rift between him and Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been resolved. This comes after a peace meeting mediated by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

After a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Wike told journalists that both parties have agreed to put aside their differences and work together in unity. “We’ve reached a mutual understanding to collaborate with the governor, and he’s also agreed to work with us,” Wike said, emphasizing that they’re part of the same political family.

Wike described the agreement as final, noting that disagreements are normal but can be resolved. “We’ve concluded our discussions, and we’re here to report to Mr. President,” he said, urging supporters to remain calm and work together.

Governor Fubara, who has been suspended, also confirmed the truce, calling it a moment of divine intervention and a significant turning point for Rivers State. “Today, we thank God for bringing us to this point,” Fubara said, highlighting the importance of peace for the state’s progress.

The governor pledged to maintain the fragile unity achieved during the peace meeting, saying, “We’ll do everything possible to sustain this peace.” The conflict between Wike and Fubara started after the latter took office in May 2023, escalating into a governance crisis with impeachment proceedings and a power struggle.

President Tinubu intervened in December 2023, brokering a temporary truce, but the conflict resurfaced, leading to a state of emergency declaration on March 18, 2025. The president suspended Fubara’s executive powers and appointed a sole administrator to oversee the state.
